* first anniversary of this journal...

One year ago today I started writing the journal, "From Dawn to Dusk"
on the Homestead site.
  The date was April 23, 2001, the entry was entitled, "beginning again".

By early June of that same year, I'd changed formats from one of the standard available formats to a 'notebook' look. Took the lines out later in June, and then started playing around with a simpler format in
January of 2002.

Have never been completely satisfied with that one but stayed with it until recently when I decided that it could use a little 'tweaking'.  Now, on this first anniversary, I feel comfortable with my format as it's shown here.  It's simple, easy to read, the design seems applicable to the title, and it allows room for some personal touches...

Not saying that I won't change it eventually.  But it should do for a while.

``````````````````````````
Now, on to a different subject, "summer"!   Here in Texas our Spring is fairly short... it's finally warm, grass turns green, flowers bloom - then bamm! It's hot!...and summer's here!
I think we might have gone past 85 degrees today. If we're going to get close to 90 in April, I fear July and August! - the mind sizzling oppressive still days of August.  I've always thought that people should NOT stay in Texas in July and August - they should retire to their summer cottages in cooler climates like Colorado or Maine (now doesn't that sound nice? Wish that we all could ...).
But be that as it may, I'm starting to feel that 'dreamy summer feeling' - those warm humid lazy days.... where you can nap with a good paperback on your lap and the windows open under the hum of a ceiling fan... preferably with a glass of mint ice tea standing by...
OR
you can walk barefoot on the beach, feeling the sand under your feet and the roar of the surf in your ears!... oh criminy, I really miss being close to  water.
The last time I was on a beach was in Maine the summer of 2000.  It was the most beautiful beach in the world... and the minute I saw it, I knew that I'd 'come home'.  Weird, I know.  But that's how it was.
It was cool, not hot, and the sand was glittering with tiny gold specs of Micah.  The beach spread out far and wide with not too many people around and lots of gulls... I rolled up my pants legs and walked for
hours.
Guess I'll close for today with a toast to summer.  Raise your glasses of strawberry wine/mint ice-tea/lemonade or whatever concoction means summer to you and together we'll toast:
"to the summer of 2002!"
