Monday, August 13, 2001 * catching up...
Well, this is not the longest I've gone without journaling, but definitely qualifies as a close second. It's been 6 days... so sorry. I could have entered short place markers to let those who do read this that I haven't disappeared forever. But unfortunately, there didn't even seem to be time for that.
Life gets very busy on occasion. But it was good busy.
As I wrote on the 7th, my grand-daughter was visiting for a few days. Then my daughter flew in and we did a lot of running. The time always flies so fast.
But it was fun, except for one "situation" with a greedy unethical retailer that nearly spoiled it. It's amazing what people will do to get a big sale - even sell the same piece of furniture twice. Strange. I'm not going to go into it - just know that they will be reported to the BBB for unethical conduct. And we're all happy not to do business with those sort, nor would we ever want to own something that was purchased from a store that would condone such dishonesty.
Enough said.
Thank goodness for the Internet. We looked up the exact article we had the problem with, found other retailers that sold it. and purchased it the next day from honest people. Sometimes things happen for a reason.
Today I'm resting. Have things to catch up on like snail mail, email, washing, and general house-hold chores that have been neglected this week.
Talking about snail mail - another interesting thing happened this Saturday morning. We arrived home from grocery shopping about 9:30 a.m. to find both our mailbox and our next door neighbor's box "flattened" ! The offending car was about one house down in the middle of the street with a flat front right tire and bricks (from my neighbors mailbox) embedded in the door of the car.
The story is that the car was driving past and the tire blew which caused it to swerve into our two mailboxes (miraculously missing the 30 ft high city street light not 6 inches from my own mailbox) and end up down the road. The bricks from my neighbor's box were hurled almost 2 houses down. Sure was a good thing no one was walking or jogging by at the time.
Anyway, the insurance companies have been notified and all is well. Just another highlight of a busy weekend.
August is flying by - which is what August in Texas should do - much too hot for anything else. However, we did get a "little" rain yesterday and today - not enough - but at least it cooled it down.
The box turtles were out this morning. They love the rain. I always picture them doing little pirouettes out on the back lawn - enjoying the cooling sprinkle of summer rain.
Well, enough procrastinating. Better do some chores. Promise to write again tomorrow. Maybe even post another picture?
