*  few more Maine pics...

For some reason I like this picture. It's nothing special, but it captures something that takes me back.  Took it on Bailey's Island at Land's End, Maine.

Now I've been to Land's End, England and this is nothing as dramatic as that.  But it's the edge of Maine... with the ocean sparkling in the late evening sunset and it's just - how to say it - kind of magical.

I wouldn't mind spending my summers in that house off to the right.  Just looking at it makes me feel like I could write a story about that house... and more than likely, it has a story of its own.

You've heard me talk in earlier journals about the Audubon Workshop I attended on Hog Island in Muscongus Bay.  Well, I wanted DH to see the Island and try to share with him some of whatever it was that captured me so completely when I was there in 2000.

So I looked it up on my Maine Atlas and  with a few 'turn arounds' we finally made our way down to Keene Neck Road which leads to Hog Island (which is also the Todd Wildlife Sanctuary).  There was no one around by the dock, so we went into the small gift shop.

There was a lady inside who asked if she could help.  I explained that I was a Hog Island "Alumni" from the summer of 2000 and had finally made it back to Maine and  just wondered if there was any way that we could get on the Island so that I could let DH see what it was like.

She was kind, but said that it wasn't allowed.  I thought this a bit unfriendly, but understood - to a point... and since the Audubon boat wasn't there...

Asked if Seth was around (he's the head man).  She said no.  So, I thanked her and we left, walking down the path to the dock.  Took a few pictures (the ones you see here), and left.

I had planned to leave a check for the Puffin Project as I did the time before when I was here... but didn't feel 'grateful'  or 'generous' at that
moment.  Can always do it later.  Maybe I'll write a letter to Seth... and include it then... with perhaps a
suggestion that ex-workshop attendees could be given a little leeway? (If DH had been permitted to see the island, there's always the chance that he might have wanted to return and take a workshop with me...)

This last pic is the path down Keene Neck Road to the dock.  There is a wildlife hiking trail that's open to the public there.  We didn't hike that day as we weren't wearing the proper clothes and with the 'West Nile mosquito thing' going on, didn't feel conducive to walking through the wet grass.

But it was a beautiful day and I got some nice pics.

Guess that's about it.  May not be journaling for a few days as the Labor Day weekend is upon us and family will be driving in tomorrow.  DH will smoke "something" (maybe a turkey or a ham?) and Mama will make some home-made potato salad, and perhaps some baked beans...etc.  and we'll eat our way through another weekend....  (I intend to play with Baby B while everyone else eats - at least that's the plan).

So - will probably resume writing on Monday or Tuesday.  Have a great
safe
happy Labor Day weekend!

BTW, the dog left on his/her own during the night - if anyone was
wondering
