Sunday, February 17, 2002 * my brother's voice...
Going through boxes yesterday afternoon, I came across a small tape recorder, one of the little things that I kept after going through my brother's things (which is a weird thing to have to do if any of you have ever had to do it). The recorder is small and didn't have any batteries in it. So I put some in and turned it on to see if it worked. Miracle of miracles but Bill's voice boomed out at me from 1995!
Can't even begin to say how it made me feel... happy, sad, joyful, sorrowful... all at once. He sounded fine. The tape was short, just one of those things where he is noting things he has to do; get his car fixed, run to the store for cigarettes, etc. Nothing earth-shattering. But..
It rocked my world.
It's 7:40 AM Sunday morning. The coffees made, cats have been fed, and I'm sitting here reading the morning journals. I find it much more relaxing than reading the morning paper. Will call my daughter and find out how baby B is doing in a few minutes. Sunday mornings are our catch up times...
Wish I could call as easily and check up on grandson, but that's another story... Sure do miss him though. Hope we get to see them at Easter. Last Easter was so fun with everyone in San Antonio and all the kids running around having an Easter Egg Hunt. Well, it wasn't all fun. There were moments. But this Easter DH and I plan to stay at a B&B/Lodge close by. Think it'll be better with the new baby in the house that the number of visiters is cut back. Besides, youngest son and wife will be going and they didn't make it last year. So we think they should have the guest room. DH, Mama, and I will enjoy the lodge. After all, we will only be there to sleep.
Guess I'd better not let too much grass grow under my feet when I need to continue work on these papers and boxes. This job looks so daunting. What is it that Confuscius used to say about the journey of a thousand miles beginning with a single step...? Guess I know that I've begun it. Just don't know if I'll finish it in this lifetime... let alone this week.
Have a good one! Rian
