Wednesday, January 16, 2002 * Parable of the Lost Soul(s)
This is a story about a Soul lost and drowning in the turbulent waters of the sea of life. She clings desperately to another Soul as to a life preserver and clings so tightly in fear that it makes it impossible for her perceived Savior to rescue her.
All he can do is tread water and try his best to keep them afloat. But it's only a matter of time before they're both lost.
If he could only get her to help or to loosen her grip, then they might have a chance. But it seems that she doesn't want help, she wants someone to do it for her... and although willing, he hasn't the strength or the professional ability to do it alone.
She can't or won't let go and his own fear of losing her and being responsible for her life keeps him from responding to the people on the shore who are shouting for him to let the Coast Guard (the Professionals) rescue her, secure her to their line so they can pull her to safety. Then he could be free to save the kids who are also floundering about around them.
But in his zeal, he mistakes his fear of letting go for strength to stand by her. When by fighting the fear of not himself being the rescuer and trusting the people who want to help, he could possibly save them all.
However, somewhere in the course of the battle, he's lost his ability to trust. He believes that only he knows best. And when trust is gone, all is lost.
Thus, inevitably, everyone goes down as the onlookers cry out in agony at the needless loss of life.
The End
The moral of this story: Place your trust in God and in those who love you and don't ever think you can do it alone.
