*  an open heart...

Started the Dalai Lama's book, "An Open Heart" today.  Interesting.  Reserving any real comment until I get a little further into it.  Agree with the ideas in it so far (mostly the need to cultivate compassion and loving kindness), but wonder if the presentation will inspire me to
actively
seek out the practice of the things he mentions. I hope so.

Like on 'Everybody Loves Raymond' the other night's rerun, I too wonder what's the meaning of life?  Is there a meaning?  Are humans the only ones who wonder?  Just because we question, does that mean there's an answer? and ...

perhaps the meaning is different for each of us?

and does it matter?

One of the things the Dalai mentions is cultivating 'non-violence'.  We should act in a way that does not benefit us alone.  We must not harm the interests of others (that's the b-- breaker, isn't it?).

Reminds me a little of the 'one great idea' that the star in "A Beautiful Mind" came up with... something to do with the best way to do something being not only for the benefit of ourselves, but for ourselves
and the group
as well..."

ponder, ponder!

Now - going to post a picture of my Hyacinth Bean Vine with its pretty purple blossoms.  So far it's winning the Vine Race.  I planted Passion Vine, Cypress Vine, and Hyacinth Bean...  The Cypress Vine is most overpowering, and the Passion Vine has the prettiest blossom, but the H B is very persistant...

This entry is a mite late.  Wrote part of it Monday, part Tuesday, and may not get it posted until Wednesday.  Oh well, such is life. Time to play with my cats...

"It's not a bad idea to get in the habit of writing down one's thoughts. It saves one having to bother anyone with them."
