Friday, June 7, 2002 * Full day already...
Thinking that I'm tired and it's only 2:30. Day started at 6:30 which is when I'm up and about - making coffee, reading journals, feeding cats. Then it was off to settle the world's problems with a good friend at our weekly coffee chat, then back home to a little house-cleaning, unexpected visit from another friend at 10 (where I was glad to stop cleaning and make us a cup of tea), then lunch with Mama at a place where she had gone recently with her friends, enjoyed it, and wanted to return. After lunch we ran a few errands, then home.
I'm now ready to take a nap...
But... will probably wash a few loads and then go do my 3-5 miles at our local health center. That's wake me up... and I need to think about supper. It's Friday, but I don't feel like pizza tonight - maybe pasta?
Oh, oh, oh... got to tell you that I picked my first corn today! It's a good size, although the kernels didn't disperse proportionately... so the top is a little strange looking. But my friend whose family used to raise corn assured me that it's fine to eat. I'm afraid that I made her laugh when I told her that I was disappointed as it looked like my corn offspring was genetically malformed. Since the kernals are both yellow and white, she said it's called candy corn and should be good. I shall try it tonight.
I did cook the huge cucumber from my garden last night. I thought that probably it was too large to eat (still don't know how it got so large without me seeing it???). But someone told me that if it was 'large', the best thing to do was peel it, take out the seeds, cut it into strips and marinade in a little balsamic vinegar with some sugar, then saute in butter. I did. It was very good. Even DH and Mama liked it.
So as you can see, my experimental vegetable garden while not bountiful has certainly been edible so far.
*And to those who might be interested, I received an ID on my caterpillar... and according to the 'expert' online, I was probably right in guessing that it was a "Yellow Bear" or "Yellow Wooly Bear"... which will turn into a Tiger Moth.
