Saturday, June 15, 2002 * another Vet visit
Took Rose and Teela for their annual Vet visit this morning. They both were very well behaved. We were really surprised at Rose as last time she growled and half-heartedly tried to bite. This time she really let them handle her without protesting. Teela is always fine. She hisses some, but she's a natural hissy spitter. It's her nature.
As I was looking at last year's entry, I realized that we took Rose on exactly the same weekend last year... how odd. Both cats got excellent health diagnoses, although Rose apparently could use a dental. She doesn't have much tartar, but does have some redness at her gum line.
And the Vet said that Teela had the look of a 7 year old, rather than the 12 plus years she actually is... He'd like to see more weight on her. She's 5.5 pounds. But she's always been tiny.
Told the doctor about the grey cat that seems to be 'staying' and he said that definitely the cats have the word out that our house is a soft touch. We agreed.
We ran our usual errands, watched "Black Hawk Down" - which was good, but a bit too much shooting for me. I went off for a bit, did a few things, and returned ( still shooting). But the best part of the day came after:
We finally went off and picked out a beautiful little female budgie for Pete. Pete is an odd boy, about normal size, but a bit scruffy. He was found outside in a garden - so we don't know if he was ever a "kept" bird or if he was, how long he'd been out on his own. But where most birds feathers are smooth, Pete's kind of stand up in places - always giving him a kind of "unkept" or "just got out of bed" look. And his eyes, which in most budgies are fairly large, seem small. But he's active and healthy, and we love him.
The point here is that I tried to explain Pete to "Polly" (which I think is going to be the new budgie's name) on the way home. I told her that I hoped she liked him as he was a nice bird, if not the most handsome. She, on the other hand, is a beautiful pale yellow smooth feathered young female.
Well, although neither seem afraid of the other, they are each staying on their own side of the cage tonight. It seems that Pete is shy, which is good as I wasn't sure just how he would act and I hoped that he wouldn't be aggressive (he was a bit of a bully with Danny, the little finch).
Will continue the Saga of Pete and Polly tomorrow...
