* news bulletin...

Peter Rabbit (found in friend's garden - hence, the name), the Budgie, also known as Petey or Pete died this morning of unknown causes. We found him at the bottom of his cage when we got up. Don't know how old Peter was - since he came to us from the wild, but he was with us for about 4-5 years.  And also in retrospect, don't know if getting him a young female was a smart idea.  But he seemed to be so happy these last 3 days.  And since I've already been asked: no, I couldn't tell if he died with a smile on his face.

Next news:  Sad Sam is gone also - not dead - but gone.  And DH and I were just beginning to think about taking him to the Vet's to get his shots if he stayed around much longer... but unfortunately, he committed the unpardonable offense - killed a bird coming to our bird feeder and ate him (literally tore him apart) right there outside my kitchen door.

He certainly wasn't hungry as his food plate was full - as was his stomach... which means he's following instinct and if the killer instinct is that strong in him, then he's not compactable (welcome) in our backyard.

I know that it's natural for a cat to stalk and kill birds, but some just stalk and others kill... and for him to be able to live in our yard, the killing instinct had to be less aggressive.  Hopefully he will be happy at his new place...
