This pic may be too big for this journal. Let me know if it takes too long to upload. Was going through my stash of pictures this morning and came across this one that seemed to say, "Good Morning!" - so I decided to use it. This is one of the horses over at the stables down the block. I pass on my morning walk (which hasn't happened too much lately due to poor weather) and watch the horses watching the walkers.
There's a beautiful little palomino there now that reminds me so of Cider, my daughter's first horse. She was a 2 year old filly with a long blonde mane and tail. Gentle, sweet natured, what they called an "easy keeper"...
A friend knew someone who was moving and needed to find a good home for her. She thought of us, and whoa... did our life change. We suddenly owned a horse which involved boarding, lessons, equipment, etc. (you talk about ripples on the water...) But it was all worth it from the moment we surprised our 12 year old daughter with this little beauty.
She had started taking riding lessons at 8 - and had inherited my love of horses, but the thought of ever owning one was just a dream as mine had always been as a child. Our friend who lived not very far from us boarded horses and my daughter use to help her muck out the stalls.
We planned their first meeting.
When I took B there to work the next morning, we would show her the "new horse" that was boarding and ask her what she thought. The conversation went something like this:
"Hey, look, there's a new horse boarding..."
As B walked over, smiled, and began petting her, I continued:
"Pretty little thing, isn't she?"
"She's beautiful..."
"Do you like her?", I asked.
"Like her, oh yes.. she's wonderful"...
"Well..., guess what?...she's yours!"
"Oh sure...."
"Really! She's yours!"
She just stared at me.
"You're kidding..."
"No, I'm not kidding. Her name is Cider... and she's 2 years old... "
That's about how it went (as best as I can remember, since it was almost 20 years ago).
B lived at the stables after that.
I'll have to find a picture of Cider to post. Didn't have a digital camera back then, but I guess I could scan an old one in.
Well, again... a picture saves the day and revives old memories.
Have a happy Sunday!
