Tuesday, March 12, 2002 * Smokey
Just a quick pic of Smokey to close horse story... and not a good indication of his ability to jump, though it does show his lack of form.
The very first time we took him out into the ring to see what he could do, the trainer put some barrels down and told B to take him over them (as far as we knew he'd never jumped before - came straight from the track). I was nervous as B took off on this strange new horse's back heading for this obstacle in their path and having no idea what the horse would do.
As it turns out, he probably didn't know either as at the very last minute, he just took off straight up in the air - no grace, no form, but HIGH! He made it over the obstacles with lots of air to spare. We all laughed... with relief and because it looked hilarious. At that point, we decided that Smokey needed lots of work on form, but... THE HORSE COULD JUMP!
Quick change of subject. Weather here has been cool to cold and very windy, damp and overcast... not at all appealing (unless you're sitting by a fire drinking something that warms your insides while the fire toasts your outsides).
Anyway, the weatherman says that the next few days should be in the 70's! I sure hope so. Have been dying to get to work in my herb garden, but afraid to do this with the weather so unpredictable. My rosemary, thyme, oregano, and salad burnet seems to have survived - for the most part. Not sure about the parsley and fennel. Saw some watercress at the nursery the other day and thought I'd give it a try. Don't know how well it will do here - but I like things I can pick fresh and put in my salads.
Also anxious to get my "promised" Magnolia tree! We've been waiting for the weather to improve.
Well, time to close for the day. Tomorrow is Dr. #2 on my doctors round-robin... keep good thoughts!
