Monday, March 25, 200 * reflecting...
Yesterday afternoon I went to a meeting at a retreat house over on Lake Dallas. It turned out to be a lovely afternoon with the weather warm and breezy, winds from the southwest, and the lake and pier so inviting.
We had our meeting, then wine and cheese (coffee for me), and then an appreciation dinner. Well, I was brand new to this, so the appreciation part was for the others on the board... but I, as well as other newbies ( if there were any?), enjoyed it.
The "thing" is that I wasn't going to go. Didn't plan to go. Told them I wasn't going to be able to attend. But went.
Why?
Don't actually know.
But I'm glad I did... for many reasons. One because I took the new highway which I've never been on before to almost it's full open extent. Now I'm not so opposed to using it, because I feel that I know it. ( I will say that what I don't like about some of these new tollways is the speed. I was going 70 in a 60 - 65 mile/hour speed limit just to go with the flow - and the flow were whizzing by me... I'm really not comfortable going over 70 - don't feel that my car is either.)
The second reason I'm glad to have gone is because it's such a nice place to visit. I go every year (as much as it's possible) on silent retreats there, but sometimes you forget just how peaceful it is. It's the place from where my freeverse comes... Reflections on Nature.
Thirdly, I met a very nice lady there (she too knew no one else) and we talked and ate together, exchanging phone numbers, and enjoying each other's company.
And I'm also glad I went because it was a way to give... they had asked something of me and even though I was hesitant to step into an unfamiliar situation, when it came down to it, I thought: What's it going to cost me but a little of my time?
And in the end, I got a lovely afternoon in a beautiful place, a new highway to use, and a new friend...
Reinforces the thought that when you give, you get much more in return...
Hope your Sunday went as well
