Thursday, May 9, 2002 * Happy Mother's Day - early!
Don't know how much time I'll have this weekend to journal so wanted to wish everyone a Happy Mother's Day today!
I have to say a word or two about my own mother. Mama will be 89 this year and still going strong. She has outlived my dad, her daughter, her son, and her own brother and sisters. She still drives her car, goes out to lunch with her friends, and enjoys shopping at the mall. She still travels some to visit friends and relatives and on the whole leads an active busy life. She has a few aches and pains with Arthritis especially in her knees, and has a bit of trouble sleeping at night, but no major illnesses... and for the most part, her mind and her memory are sharp. We thank God for this every day.
Mama moved in here with DH and I eight years ago this summer. Hard to believe it's been that long. She still worries that she's in the way, no matter how often we tell her that we love having her here. It worked out well. She took over the upstairs which the boys had originally and made it her little apartment (2 bedrooms, sitting room, and double bath).
Although Mama and I are "different" in many ways, we get along well and have learned to accept the differences... and enjoy each other's company.
One more thing before I close for the night as I'm so-oo sleepy right now...
This Mother's Day my daughter is a Mother for the first time! ( I guess technically she was a mother last year even though Baby B was still in the belly as it were...) But this year Baby B can send her Mommy a Mother's Day card! and I can enjoy the thrill of knowing that my baby girl has a baby girl of her own....
