Tuesday, October 29, 2002 * rockin' my world...
I have to face it. "Too much info" rocks my world.
In a letter that I once wrote to my brother years ago, I said that :
"... sometimes I think that I have a very fragile physical constitution... it falls apart easily (meaning migraine headaches and internal screaming - outwardly no one would notice). So I protect it as best I can by getting away from people and noise and TV, etc. by ever so often going to a silent retreat, going for long walks, sitting out back by the creek...etc.
At work (this was written before I retired) if things get stressful, everyone comments on how calm I am - just staying calm and handling the problem. That's because over the years, I've perfected my method of handling life. Sometimes it assaults my senses... everything is too loud, too busy, too much... so I mentally turn it off, back further away from it inside myself... so there's more space between it and me.
This doesn't mean that I don't enjoy life. I do... really do! ... but it's the natural part that speaks to me... the trees, the birds, the sky, the wind...in Nature I find joy. I read somewhere once that "beyond the gloom of this world lies joy - take joy!"... and I did. It was everywhere."
I knew when I wrote those words that he probably thought I was 'looney tunes'... but kindly he never said so.
Anyway, things have been happening on the home front that fit into this "too much info" box. So my head is bursting. I have been looking up "stuff" on the Internet that might be helpful, but find that the more I read, the more complicated the whole issue is. Thank God for Bailey's Cove and it's peaceful existence!
Don't know if any of you ever watched Public Televisions British Comedy, "Waiting for God", but the gentleman actor (and I forget his name) was always going off in his mind to various places.... for adventure, or fun, or anything besides his day to day existence in the 'old folks home'. I think this was probably very therapeutic. They teased him about it, but he didn't care. I think he had the right idea.
Well, going to close for today. It's already Wednesday and I haven't posted this. Did sign up for the 'NaNoWriMo' thing for November. Ava mentioned this and had to agree it sounds like fun. And just rented "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" - recommended by Doug so that I can see the area around Utah.
Have a good one! Rian
