Monday, September 2, 2002 * a quiet day...
Guess Labor Day is supposed to be 'a quiet day - a day of rest from weeks of laboring'. However, many times it's quite a busy day for the women of the house as like most holidays, it involves the gathering of the clan around good food... which must be purchased, cooked, and served, and dishes cleaned, then cleared. Not that this is such a chore, it's just not necessarily restful...
Well, since my daughter and her family were here Saturday, we had our 'food fest' then. Youngest son and his wife came by in the afternoon and good friends and their precious 2 month old joined us later.
So today (Monday) really is a day of rest... nothing in particular planned. I will catch up on my journaling and journal reading, do a little post weekend cleanup, and that's about it.
DH is working in the yard - something that I would like to do as well as some walking, but unfortunately due to a small mishap, that won't be possible. Afraid that somehow I 'broke my little toe' - sounds so trite - but hurt like the dickens.
Sometime Saturday afternoon when everything was quiet (Baby B was napping) and everyone else was watching a movie in the den, I slipped off to my room and was resting (reading my Lobster Chronicles).
Remembered that I had left my pictures uploading on the computer, and hopped out of bed (too quickly I suppose) to go check them out. When I did, I guess I slammed my little toe into the dresser (don't actually remember doing it - just the screaming pain of it as I immediately went down to the floor and grabbed my foot thinking "bloody hell! THAT really HURT!)
Decided to forego the pics and lie down, fell asleep, and forgot about the toe until I awoke and stepped out of bed once more. The minute my weight hit my foot I knew something was wrong. Looked down to see not only my toe but the whole left side of my foot swollen and purple.
My thought as I looked at my foot was, " now... isn't it always something?"
Now today, old lady that I am, I'm not only limping on a wounded foot, but sore in both arms and both legs due to bending and carrying around a 22 pound bundle of pure joy.... (Baby B) all day Saturday. Wouldn't have it any different, though. If I paid for the pleasure with a broken toe, so be it.
Checking out the local Toys R Us for upcoming Birthday/Christmas gift. I think she liked this one... (top) lots of cabinets to open. Meanwhile, when back at home:
"Wow! This one's better!"
Can see her little mind working. But..
"No, darlin' you have to start small..."
Have a great Holiday! Rian
