Saturday, September 28, 2002 * packing for the Cove...
Have been invited and definitely plan to visit "The Outlook" which is Doug's Mind Getaway Place... (oh, admit it! we all have one, you just probably haven't named yours)
But be that as it may, I need to be at Bailey's Cove this weekend to get myself a rowboat and some fishing gear.
Maybe I'll also check out some garage sales and find some cheap beds and a few furnishings. So far there's only the kitchen table and some ricketty chairs - and a hammock, swing, and 2 rockers on the screen porch.
Of course I have brought over a few supplies earlier; books, coffee pot, cups, etc. Better bring a few old lamps too. It's getting awfully hard to read by moonlight. Could do the old 'fireflies in a jar' thing - but these old eyes may not appreciate that.
The cats and I will leave a little later this morning. Good thing about traveling in 'my mind's eye' is it takes so little time to go and/or to get back... similar to 'beam me up, Scottie!"
If all goes well, we will do a little fishing Sunday morning... wonder if the cats would like to go with me? I can see the girls (Teela, Molly, and Rose) coming - and definitely Toby (who by the way is not a phantom dog - but a reincarnation/cyber-clone of my own Irish Setter from years ago - the most perfect handsomest dog you've ever seen - tall and lean, long shiny red hair, big square head, sweet disposition).
but Thibs, I think we'll leave at home. Besides, he loves the screen porch at Bailey's Cove. It's his 'safe' outside spot - definitely a step up from hiding underneath the bathroom sink!
My main problem with taking the girls with me on a boat would be (as I mentioned before) keeping Teela and Molly from pushing Rose overboard... I can hear them plotting already:
(Teela) "Go ahead, give her a little nudge..." (Molly) "You do it!" (Teela) "You're bigger... (Molly) "Twirp!" (Teela) "Wonder if she'd float?"
and poor Rose would lie there on the rowboat seat spread out with her paw hanging in the water looking for all the world like she was totally ignoring them.... (but her ears would move back and forth like radar as they whispered)

OK, enough of that... Have to tell you something serendipitous
ser·en·dip·i·ty Pronunciation Key (srn-dp-t) n. pl. ser·en·dip·i·ties The faculty of making fortunate discoveries by accident.
that happened tonight. Received an email from 'Ethan' who found my website by looking up "Treats" on the search engine, Google. The reason he looked it up is because he works at Treats in Wiscasset, Maine - the place we recently visited in Maine and I talked about here.
Also, he said that the reason they carry Starbucks Java Chip is because his mom likes to put it in her coffee! Isn't that something? Synchronicity?
syn·chro·nic·i·ty Pronunciation Key (sngkr-ns-t, sn-) n. pl. syn·chro·nic·i·ties The state or fact of being synchronous or simultaneous; synchronism. Coincidence of events that seem to be meaningfully related, conceived in Jungian theory as an explanatory principle on the same order as causality.
Anyway, here is the website for Treats of Wiscasset, Maine. Please check it out as there is a great picture of the storefront and one of the inside as well. You'll see right off why we thought it such a great place! (and do me a favor, leave a note that Rian sent you!)
