Thursday, September 6, 2001 Put cursor over horse ! * days like this...
What's the old song, "Mama said there'd be days like this..."?
Well, not sure Mama told me there would be days like this, but there are just the same. Like I said yesterday, I was going to be enjoy the next few undemanding days so ... my mind wondered off.
This morning after I dropped Mom (she's 88 this year and lives with my hubby and me) off at the Senior Center for her luncheon, I stopped by Starbucks for a quick cuppa before returning home. Well, as I said, I've been a might mellow and I guess I must have left my mind somewhere else...
The scenerio went something like this:
"May I help you?"
"Uh, yes, I'd like a (looking at the wall menu) ...tall Mocha Frappacino...??? with a-aah skim milk, please?"
"I'm sorry, that was a ...???"
"Oh, that was wrong, wasn't it? I meant a tall Mocha - the hot kind, that's not a Frappacino, is it? Sorry. But I do want skim milk."
(should have said a Cafe Mocha Skinny, but I'm not that UP on Starbucks talk)
She just looked at me like I was from Mars...and made the coffee.
Then I checked up on the wall for the price (which said $2.80) and handed her $3.00. She just stood there staring at me.
Finally she said, "Do you have 3 cents?"
And I fumbled around in my wallet and said," oh sure....sorry". I don't seem to be quite here today..."
So, I'm either very mellow or my mind has wondered off... for a bit.
must be old age... (it's definitely not drink as Migraines prohibit that possibility)
Someone mentioned yesterday that when they were surfing the net for online journals, they noticed that so many are written by the very young.
Well, this one's not. It's written by a 56 year old grandmother who is teetering on the edge between middle and old age - but still feels the same joy she knew in youth.
Read a quote a long time ago. Don't remember it exactly, but it went something like this:
"Beyond the gloom of the world lies joy, ... take joy!"
and I did!
